Back pain is caused by injuries to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, discs, nerves and occasionally blood vessels and inner organs. These injuries can also cause leg, abdominal and groin pain.
Frequently, poor posture, begins the back pain. This can be reversed if addressed early.
The muscles can be treated with posture modification, massage, trigger point injections and occasionally Botox injections.
Trigger points are areas of muscle tenderness which have typical referred pain patterns as seen in the below pictures.

The joints, called facet joints can be treated with steroid injections or blocking the nerves from the joints.
The nerves can be treated with epidural injections.
The ligaments can be treated with local injections which can help heal them.
Frequently, with long standing back pain multiple different treatments may be necessary.
